Burnsie the rally wagon - Wheels, Tyres and other Rally Bits

Wheels arrived just the other day - 5 to start with, more to come.

These are 15" Speedline Corse Wheels, each fitted with 195/65-15 Pirelli K40's. Wheels/Tires were purchased from my guys at AVsport - Honestly.... of all of my Subaru's and all the goods I've purchased in the past, these have to be the nicest treat I've ever purchased for any of my cars - they're stunning looking wheels! Nice that they will clear the WRX front calipers even though they are only a 15" wheel

Speedlines fitted with Pirelli Rally Tyres

In preparation for the welding of the rollcage....

we removed the entire dash assembly, this includes trim, radio, heater bits, vents - all of it!!! Car is right down to the wiring harness and the support beam across the dash (this is what's holding the car/dash together in the front.)  Center console and alls seat belts/airbag related material is also out - now it's time for the welding to begin!!

....come on Dave! U got work to do!!!

reinforced/welded strut top

2/2/03 The team's been working frantically, trying to get this car back into new condition, not to mention getting it ready to hit the rally stages.  I have to say that things are progressing fairly well...  This past weekend we have managed to repair most of the trim work, swap the mirrors, fix the melted underbody entirely, install the Sparco racing steering wheel, remove the airbags and the interior in preparation for the cage, install the rear diff protector and more... With the pieces falling into place, the next step is to get that roll cage installed! :)

Installing a U.S. spec Non heated mirror onto Canadian spec Heated harness - I had to get a new mirror on the car as the old one was.. well... MELTED from the original vehicle fire. As this car is originally from Canada, it had the cold weather package - aka HEATED side view mirrors, thus the harnesses from new to old mirror were not going to match up.... here is what we did.....

US model non heated mirror

Non heated mirror harness

removed damaged mirror

heated mirror harness

comparing NON heated (white) harness to Heated (black)

completely removing black heated harness end from the damaged mirror

here it is completely stripped

now, we'll swap the wiring from the non heated mirror INTO the heated harness plug end

strip off the white non heated plug end. install onto those wires the black plug end... and reconnect!

installed, mirror is now functional (although, no longer heated)

Rally Car Prep begins

Rally bits and pieces arrive:

interior is removed, rear diff protector installed, seats test fit/installed, pass side airbag is removed, damaged melted roof trim is replaced.

Sparco 350mm racing steering wheel install

sparco wheel and momo steering hub adapter

OEM steering wheel cover and airbag removed (2 screws on either side of the airbag, pull back, disconnect harness - done) 17mm bolt for the steering wheel - loosen bolt tug HARD and the wheel will come free. remove bolt, remove wheel.

behind the steering wheel is the turn signal cancels and the airbag harness. Disconnect harness, remove entire wheel.

Now we are ready for the install of the aftermarket wheel and hub. line up hub over steering rack input shaft, attach sparco wheel to hub using supplied hardware... and you're done!
