Per the 2005 Rules
for PGT Rally class, Burnsie the rally Wagon has had an
EcuTek
reflash done to the stock computer in the car. The initial reflash
was setup "off the shelf" - meaning it was done with no tuning with
the actual car and was based only on the modifications TO the car
itself. After installing the new EcuTek computer, I have to say I
didn't SEE a lot of changes in the car. Car simply didn't FEEL like
it had this magical reflash. It didn't SEEM all that different??!?!
Could the reflash be an ineffective one?
Yep. Reason? The
32mm restrictor required on the inlet side of the turbo.
This totally
interfered with the settings and required a good tuner and some dyno
time to set things right :)

After 2.25 hours on
a dyno with the tuning knowledge of the pros at
PDXTuning,
Burnsie the Rally Wagon felt like an entirely new car!!! Ends up
that the initial reflash was not producing numbers any better than a
completely 'stock' WRX Wagon. After the reflash we went up approx
20hp and 22 ft. lbs. of torque.
In our rally class,
the key thing is not necessarily horsepower. It is torque, down low
where you need it, and in the mid range. This torque was
dramatically increased - even with the restrictor in place - due to
the efforts of the team at PDXTuning. They did a fantastic job -
especially considering that this was the first Turbo Restrictor
fitted race car they'd ever tuned! Burnsie couldn't be happier!!
Now I can only hope that I can control his new found power..... only
time will tell!!!
Many thanks to Tim
and the rest of the gang at PDX!! Enjoy the photos (photos by Tim
