Doo Wops 3 and 4 SCCA Club Rally

Burnsie the Rally Wagon - vertical perch

We went into a 90-degree right hand turn a tick too fast.  The back end of the car spun wide... I throttled it with all I had, but there was no chance of recovery.  Burnsie spun nearly all the way around, and we left the road - back-end-first at approximately 25-30mph.  This is a sheer drop, and the only thing holding the car up was a small series of left over trees and root system which had lodged itself under the driver side tire.

Removal of the car required 3 winches and a total of 5 vehicles.  The sweep team did an amazing job in retrieving the car  - I will soon have their efforts that added to my personal video collection - as I stood and filmed the retreival.

I know how lucky I got, and will approach mucky conditions with even more caution than previously. I didn't feel that I tossed my usual caution aside, I was just feeling the car and moving it quickly... bit too fast is all... I guess I simply didn't realize just how slick the road surface was.

End result is the car is 100% perfect, not a scratch on it - Co-driver is shaken, but determined to see us prevail - and Driver?? Well the driver realized that at times, she's just a "nut behind the wheel."   Driver error is a bad thing :) Let's not have any more of that eh?
