Jamie Thomas Takes Class Win and Overall Podium at the Mt Trial Rally

WCRC - Canadian Rally Championship - Merritt, BC - For Immediate Release - June 21,2006

Driver Jamie "Subie Gal" Thomas along with superstar guest navigator Ben Bradley headed north across the boarder to tackle a round of the Western Canadian Rally Championship. Jamie had not been to Merritt to compete in over two years, but the team blasted down the stages to a 3rd place podium finish and captured 1st in car class as well!

Mt. Trials is a full recce rally event.  Basically this differs from other events as the team was permitted to make 2 passes over the rally stages BEFORE the day of the event. This allowed Jamie to make her own rally notes, rather than utilize organizer supplied course notes and descriptions.  This makes for a bit of a challenge as it is imperative to get the notes "right" and to make sure tricky sections of the rally are well noted, well documented. Having seasoned navigator Ben Bradley along, made this part of the rally much easier as Jamie had only competed in one other recce event.

Once the stages started, the team ran into problems nearly immediately, not with the recce notes, but with tires.  Just before the start of stage 2, the team realized that one of the front tires had gone flat. Jamie had to drive the stage with a completely flatted tire, losing over 20 seconds.  This was just the beginning, the team would suffer 2 additional punctures before the end of the rally, losing in all over 6 minutes. The final puncture came on the final stage of the rally, with the team sitting 2nd overall with over a 4 minute lead over 3rd place. Frustrating as it was, the team swapped the flatted tire, and finished the stage saving their podium position and earn 1st in car class (P4) to end an excellent weekend of racing.

"The roads were fun in spots, rough in others. I just could not believe all of the tires we were blowing through, this has never happened  before." grinned Jamie Thomas, team owner/driver, "Pretty fantastic weekend. Ben was amazing, the notes were good, and the car is in one piece covered in champagne - what more can you ask for?!"
