Rally-America
Regional Championship - Hillsboro, OR - For Immediate Release - May
22, 2008
Driver Jamie "Subie
Gal" Thomas along with navigator Rob Bohn tackled what would be one
of the most brutal Oregon Trail rally events on record - and they
did it with much success. This is the season opener for the team and
the first rally Jamie has competed in since May of 2007. This is
also the first time these two have paired up together as a
driver/navigator team. Regardless of these circumstances, the team
blasted down the stages to 1st in their PGT car class as well as a 1st overall
and 3rd overall in the regional rally contests.
Oregon Trail is always a tricky and
very technical rally. Known for it's super high crown roads and ball
bearing surface, this is one rally that will test every team to
their limit. This year, there was the added challenge of
extreme temperatures. Very unseasonable temperatures well into the
90's struck the event with a vengeance. Without a drop of rain to
help tack up the roads, Oregon's rally stages became unbelievably
challenging to navigate.
"I do not
believe I have EVER seen so many cars off of the road."
stated Jamie
Thomas, team Owner/Driver, "The roads were super sketchy in places,
you had to be right in the line, or you were going for a ride."
Many teams experienced that ride with over 1/2 of the field dropping
out of contention, including most of the top National cars.
Jamie and Rob kept
their focus, even while they kept the crew busy. Burnsie the Rally
Wagon started to experience some difficulties. Cat converter
took a hit and began to break up in the exhaust, causing massive
overheating. On a 96F day, overheating is not good! Next the slave
cylinder overheated making it nearly impossible to shift the car at
will. Finally, in the very last stage of the weekend, and in
dramatic fashion, Burnsie's transmission (2nd gear) became exploded
within sight of the Finish marker. The team did manage to find
a gear and limp across the finish holding onto their 1st place in
PGT class for the day.
Jamie continued on, "Pretty fantastic weekend
all in all. I was a bit rusty but started to shake off the cobwebs
as we went along. Our crew was unbelievable and Rob was just
fantastic - Mr Cool... he didn't get rattled by anything!!!
Not even me! It was a very good event, great way to come back
after so much time off."
Decication:
Jamie would like to dedicate this win to the Memory of her Father,
Harry F. Holbert
"Dad, I'm back, and I want you
to know I'm having fun!
I miss you..."
