Din Pocket with Lid - Install into your Impreza RS!

Add a nice single din pocket with lid to your Impreza

Tools needed:

Phillips Screwdriver

Drill

Marking pen/pencil

For those of you who have replaced the OEM stereo with a nice single din unit

Here is a convenient, nice looking Din Pocket with Lid from Subaru!

Din was originally made for the Legacy, but can be adapted to fit your Impreza.

I purchased mine from SubaruGenuineParts (click me)   - $18.00

This is not an expensive modification gang!!

I had read that this was a "direct fit - plug and play" install ....

I had a single open din, but decided I would like the look/function of the din with Lid better.

Unfortunately, what I found was that it did not line up right with my stereo

and that the stereo brackets needed modifying before I could get the fit I wanted.

Photos Below describe steps to install. All in all? 30-45min job - and end result looks great!

easiest to remove the shift surround. do this by first removing 2 screws holding center console piece in. once removed, slide this piece back a bit.

Next, snap up the gear shift surround (not shown), remove ashtray, then snap out the radio/hvac surround (see pic)

disconnect ashtray element and light from the backside of surround. trim piece is now free from dash, set aside

4 screws, 2 on each side, hold your radio brackets into place. remove all 4 to free the unit

slide the unit out - I did all of my work in car so as to avoid disconnecting all the wiring bits from the stereo

din pocket is held in with 2 screws - one on each side - remove and din is free

insert new din with lid, line up, check for functionality. Chances are you too will need to drill new holes to secure. measure n mark them

drilling in new holes as marked. (note that I've set the unit down on a soft rag so as not to scuff the working area (inside of the car!)

line up and install din with 2 screws using new holes you've just made

done!

reinstall trim pieces in reverse order

remember there are 2 screws on each side

din installed trim pieces replaced (in reverse order) finished product - closed
